Spielerando

Build a shield that recharges after a pause and waits longer once it breaks

A shield that refills at once removes all danger, and one that refills during a fight is invincible. Here is a shield that waits after each hit, waits longer when broken, passes excess damage on to health, and recharges at a steady speed on any screen.

Why this works

Recovery should reward staying out of trouble. A wait that restarts with every hit asks the player to take cover and be patient, and a longer wait after losing the shield entirely makes the loss matter more than a scratch.

When not to use it

Do not use it in survival or horror games where resources should feel scarce and every wound should linger. Use health that only returns through items or rest spots, so danger stays with the player.
