Show the day famine hits when the player changes the ration

Cutting rations feels like a clear choice until the stores run out a day earlier than anyone said. Here is how to look ahead day by day, include a later change of plan, round the daily need the way hungry people count, and warn at a sensible moment.

Why this works

Players cannot feel a slow shortage until it is too late, so tell them the day. Playing the days forward with the plan they have already set, and counting food in whole units as it is really eaten, gives a date they can trust.

When not to use it

Misleading when harvests, raids or weather make supply unpredictable, because a confident date will be wrong. Show a range or a warning level then. It also adds nothing in a game where food never runs out.
