Spielerando

Make a rare wanderer appear by distance walked, never too soon, never too late

A traveller who is meant to be rare turns up three times in an hour for one player and never in twenty hours for another. Here is how to let the chance grow with distance covered, stay at zero at the start, become certain after a set distance, and reset only when the traveller is met.

Why this works

A flat chance gives lucky streaks and long droughts, and players remember the extremes. A chance that grows with distance since the last meeting evens things out: a quiet start, a rising hope, and a sure meeting in the end.

When not to use it

Skip it when the surprise itself is the reward, such as a legendary find that should feel like pure luck. A guaranteed meeting takes that thrill away. Keep a flat, tiny chance and let some players never see it.
