Move a story place the player has flattened to the nearest spot they can reach

The hermit's hut was meant to stand on the hill, and the player dug the hill away or built a fortress on it. Here is how to find the closest spot where the hut can still appear, one the player can actually walk to, instead of one that looks near on the map but lies across water.

Why this works

The story needs the place to exist more than the player's digging needs to be undone. The new spot must be one the player can actually get to, so closeness is judged by walking, not by a straight line across water or walls.

When not to use it

Skip it when the loss is the point, such as a player who burns the only bridge and must live with it. Moving the place erases the consequence. Let the story go on without it, or let the player rebuild it.
