Give places names from the map seed that never change or repeat
Walk to the east first and the village is called Ashford, walk to the west first and the same village is called something else. Here is how to name places from where they are, not from when they were created, and to settle two places that land on the same name in a way that never depends on the order.
Why this works
A name should be a fact about a place, not about when you first saw it. Drawing from a shared stream of random numbers ties each name to the order of visits, while mixing the place and the seed gives each spot its own fixed name.
When not to use it
Skip it when names carry story, such as places named after what the player did, or when people can rename a place. Then the name must be stored in the save and not recomputed. Use the formula only for names nobody has chosen.
