Keep a shared scene from spoiling the story for the player who is behind

One friend has finished the story and another has just started, and the old innkeeper happily names the villain out loud. Here is a rule for which version of a line everyone gets, and what to do when a newcomer arrives in the middle of it.

Why this works

A secret can be told only once. In a shared scene the person who knows least sets what may be said, because a reveal cannot be taken back, while a veteran can always be given extra later and in private.

When not to use it

Skip it when the group is playing the story together from the start, so everyone is at the same point, or when spoilers do not matter, as in a game whose twist is no secret. Then the floor only dulls the lines.
