Spielerando

Decide what happens when two players talk to the same character at once

Two players walk up to the quest giver together, and one hears the middle of the other's conversation or the character answers both at once. Here is who gets the character, who may listen in, who waits, and what frees the character when someone wanders off.

Why this works

A character with one voice can only hold one thread at a time, or its answers stop making sense to anyone. Clear owner, a visible queue and a release when the owner goes quiet keep it fair without anyone having to guess who is being spoken to.

When not to use it

Skip it when the character just gives out a shop menu or a single fixed line, where several people can be served at once. There each player can get a private copy of the conversation instead of a shared one.
