Spielerando

Let a secret spread between characters but grow less certain each time

A character who heard the news from a friend of a friend should not speak about it like an eyewitness. Here is a way to carry how sure each character is, how it fades along the chain, and what changes in what they are willing to say.

Why this works

Hearing something is not the same as having seen it, and every retelling loses a little. Letting sureness shrink at each step and never adding weak sources together matches how rumours behave in real life, so characters speak at the right distance from the truth.

When not to use it

Skip it when the story is a puzzle that needs plain facts, such as clues the player must be able to rely on. Fading certainty there feels like unfairness, so mark the few things that are simply true.
