Spielerando

Show only the nameplates that matter when a town is full of players

With forty players in the square every head carries a name and the screen turns into a thicket of words. Here is how to decide which names to show, in what order of importance, and how to stop plates from flickering on and off as people shuffle.

Why this works

A screen can hold only so much reading before everything turns to noise. Ranking names by how much they matter to this player, and favouring the ones already shown, keeps the important few steady instead of letting near-equal choices flicker.

When not to use it

Skip it in small scenes where everyone fits on screen without clutter, or when every name matters equally, as in a game of finding a hidden player. There show them all or none, and let the player decide.
