Make other players glide instead of teleporting in an online game

Other players arrive as a few position updates per second, so drawing them as they come makes them hop. Showing them a little late and blending between updates fixes it, but guessing ahead too long makes them run through walls. Here is the balance and what to do when updates stop.

Why this works

You can blend between two things you know, but you can only guess about what you have not been told. Showing others a moment late means there is almost always a known before and after to glide between, trading a little delay for smooth motion.

When not to use it

Skip it when reaction time decides the game, such as fast shooting duels, where a delayed picture means aiming at someone who has already moved. There the server must compensate for the delay, or you accept a rougher picture.
