Tell apart players who quit from players whose horror game crashed or lost power
Many sessions simply stop, with no goodbye from the game, and counting them as people who gave up blames the story for a bug or a dead battery. This entry shows a way to separate the two kinds of ending, and how to avoid calling a player who is still playing a loss.
Why this works
A crash and a quit look the same in the log, because neither says goodbye. A small regular signal tells which sessions simply stopped, so an unstable scene is not mistaken for a scary one.
When not to use it
Wrong where the game cannot send anything, as in offline play, or where privacy rules forbid it. Use the crash reports the platform already gives you, or ask players to send one.
