Order who speaks in a group scene so nobody talks twice in a row
Four characters all want to comment on the same moment, and the scene turns into one person speaking three times before anyone else gets a word. Here is how to order the lines so the voices alternate, urgent remarks still cut in, and nothing gets lost.
Why this works
A conversation sounds natural when voices alternate, but silence is worse than repetition. Letting turn-taking beat importance except for a closing line, and never dropping a line, keeps the scene readable while the urgent remark still arrives early.
When not to use it
Skip it when one character is meant to monologue, or when a scene is a quarrel where talking over each other is the point. There the order should be written by hand.
