Spielerando

The game says "1 clues" or "5 Schlüssel" with the wrong form in another language

Counted words such as keys or days change shape depending on the number, and the rules differ by language: some have only two forms, some have more, and zero is not always like the others. This entry picks the right form and finds the missing ones.

Why this works

Plural is a rule of the language, not of the word. Every language sorts numbers into its own groups, so the text has to carry one form per group and the game has to ask the language which group a number falls into.

When not to use it

When the number can be avoided, avoid it. A sentence such as "Keys: 5" or an icon with a number needs no plural at all and is easier to translate than any rule. Use plural rules only when the sentence really has to count.
