The over-the-shoulder camera is squashed against a wall and keeps flipping sides

A camera that looks past the character's shoulder is stuck with the wall right next to it in corridors and corners. Moving to the other shoulder helps, if the swap is done at the right moment and not over and over. Here is when to do it.

Why this works

Switching sides is a fix for being cramped, so it should happen only when the current side is cramped and the other is clearly roomier. Requiring both stops the camera from flipping where both sides are equal, and a short pause stops repeated flips.

When not to use it

It is the wrong tool in tight corridors where both sides are cramped; swapping gains nothing there. Pull the camera in closer to the character, or switch to a first-person view for that stretch.
