Examining a found item up close: it is cut off, clipped away, or tiny on a phone
Picking up a note or a key to turn it around is a classic. It goes wrong when the thing is bigger than the screen at the start, disappears when you zoom in too far, or fits a wide window but not a tall one. Here is how to set the view limits from the object itself.
Why this works
Everything about how close or far to hold the camera follows from the object's own size and from the narrower side of the screen. Measure the thing once, and the limits stay right on any window, whether the object is a key or a statue.
When not to use it
It is not enough for a very long or flat object, such as a scroll or a sword, where a ball around it leaves lots of empty space and the item looks tiny. Fit the view to its real shape, or start zoomed in on the part that matters.
