Spielerando

A computer helper takes over for a dropped player, then fights for the controls

When a teammate drops, the game can keep their character useful. The trouble starts when they come back in the middle of a move, or both the human and the helper act at once. This entry makes the hand-over clean in both directions.

Why this works

A character should never have two bosses at once. Naming exactly who is in control, and handing it back only at a calm moment, means a short drop costs little and a returning player never fights an invisible helper.

When not to use it

Wrong for competitive or ranked play where a computer player would change the result, and for tiny games where one missing person ends the round anyway. There, pause or end fairly instead of pretending the player is still there.
