Credit a temporary boost only for the time it was really active while away

A double-speed boost ended in the middle of the night, or two boosts overlapped, and the player comes back to either too much or too little. Here is how to measure the covered time exactly, including boosts that started before the player left.

Why this works

A bonus is worth the time it actually covered, and covering the same minute twice does not make it count twice. Cutting each bonus to the time away and joining overlaps first means every minute is looked at once.

When not to use it

Skip it when boosts are meant to stack, so that two together are stronger than one. Then each overlap has its own strength and you must split time at every start and end instead of merging.
