Tell "own ten farms" and "buy ten farms" apart when players sell and receive gifts
One quest asks for a state, the other for actions, and mixing them up lets players sell and rebuy forever, lose a finished goal by selling, or never count a gift. Here is a small rule that keeps both honest, including what finished means once it has happened.
Why this works
Owning is a state and buying is an act, and they answer different questions. A state can go up and down, an act cannot be undone, so each needs its own record, and once a goal has been met it stays met.
When not to use it
Skip it when the quest really means holding something at the moment of hand-in, like bringing the item to a person. Check that at claim time instead. Also skip it when selling is impossible and gifts do not exist.
