A door needs two players on two plates, but lag keeps closing it

Both players stand on their plates, yet on the network one step arrives a moment after the other has already moved, so the door never opens or flickers shut. This entry shows how to make teamwork puzzles forgiving without making them trivial.

Why this works

Network delay shifts when each press arrives, so two presses that truly overlapped can look like they missed each other. A short fixed tail after letting go gives the late message time to catch up, without letting anyone cheat.

When not to use it

Wrong when the puzzle is about exact timing, such as stepping off a plate at the right beat, or when everyone plays on one screen with no delay. There, drop the tail and let the door follow the plates exactly.
