How long until new players first have fun, counting the ones who left before?
The average time to a first win or first big moment looks great if you only look at the people who got there. The ones who left first are exactly the story. This entry shows how to measure it without leaving them out.
Why this works
An average over people who got there ignores everyone who gave up on the way, and those are the ones you most need to hear from. Putting every new player in the count shows how long it really takes, including that for some it never happens.
When not to use it
Skip it when the good moment is not a single event, such as a mood that builds slowly, or when the first minutes are not meant to hook anyone, like a game people open on purpose for a long session. Judge those by later return rather than by the first minute.
