Two teams look equally strong on paper, but one match is a slaughter
Comparing the average skill of two teams can say everything is fair while one side has a far stronger star player. This entry shows two numbers to log for every match so unfair pairings show up before players complain.
Why this works
Two teams can match on average and still be unfair if one has a single player far above everyone else. Comparing the typical player and the strongest player on each side catches both a general imbalance and one dominating person.
When not to use it
It says little in games where skill is not what decides, such as a party game, or where the rating itself is unreliable. Fix the rating first, and in games with fixed roles compare the same role on each side instead.
