Spielerando

Give every villager a fixed walk offset so hundreds of them do not step in unison

Spawn two hundred workers on the same frame and they all lift the same foot at the same instant, which looks like a parade. Choosing a random offset when they spawn seems to fix it, until the numbers change from one match to the next. This entry shows what to derive the offset from, and why it must not depend on the list order.

Why this works

A crowd looks alive when each person is slightly out of step, and it stays believable only if that offset belongs to the person. Tying it to a permanent id gives the same shift every time and everywhere, while chance or list position changes under your feet.

When not to use it

Don't use it for a handful of units or for groups meant to move as one, like a drilled parade, a band or a rowing crew. There the shared beat is the point, so give them one common step clock.
