A player with unspent skill points holds up the whole group at the start

Before a co-op match begins, everyone must be ready, and a player who leveled up and has not picked skills can stall the countdown. Spending the points for them sounds easy, until the pick breaks the rules of the skill tree or never ends. Here is how to do it safely and predictably.

Why this works

A choice that is not made will be made by default, so make the default one the player would have picked. Their own ordered wish list, read again from the top for every point, respects what they asked for and handles things that must be bought first.

When not to use it

Skip it when the choice shapes the whole style of play and a wrong guess would spoil the game, or when there is time to ask. Then keep the points unspent and remind the player, since an automatic build can feel like someone else played for them.
