Let scouting decide how much the mission briefing reveals

A briefing that quotes exact enemy numbers the player never scouted ruins the point of scouting. Here is how to write one template that says "unknown", "about" or the real figure depending on what the player earned, without ever hinting at a number it hides.

Why this works

Information is worth something only if it can be missing. Keeping the truth apart from what the player has earned, and routing every line through one place, means a poor scout really gets a vaguer report and nothing leaks by accident.

When not to use it

Frustrating when scouting is hard to understand or feels like a tax, so players just guess. Also unnecessary in a game where the briefing is flavour and every number is shown anyway. Give the player a clear way to improve their view.
