Spielerando

Tell the player how many turns until a costly choice becomes affordable

A greyed-out option that only says "not enough gold" leaves the player guessing. Here is how to give an honest wait time that respects changing income and the limits of the storehouse, and how to say "never" when never is the truth.

Why this works

A bare cost tells a player nothing about when. Playing the coming turns forward with the income they will really have, and honouring a limit on storage, gives an honest answer, including the answer that waiting will never be enough.

When not to use it

Unreliable when income swings wildly or depends on the player's own choices, since the forecast will be wrong and breaks trust. Show a range or just the current gap then. Also pointless if the player can buy anything at once.
