Spielerando

Let a rumour spread from town to town, later and weaker each time

The player burns a barn in the north, and ten days later a stranger in the south mentions it, slightly wrong. Here is how to work out on which day each town hears of a deed, how much of it is still believed, and where it fades out.

Why this works

News is carried by people, and people take time and get things wrong. Letting a rumour arrive by the quickest road and lose strength with each town it passes through makes the world feel connected, and you can say when and how strongly each place reacts.

When not to use it

Skip it when the deed should be known everywhere at once, such as a king's public proclamation or a great disaster. Then use a single announcement for the whole world rather than a slow spread.
