Show foreign speech as scrambled words that clear up as the player learns
A traveller meets people who speak another tongue, and the text should be gibberish at first and understandable word by word later. Here is a way that never flickers between frames, keeps punctuation and lengths, and makes every new word learned stay learned.
Why this works
Learning feels real when it sticks. If a word's clarity depends only on the word and the player's skill, then every word they once understood stays clear, nothing flickers, and progress shows in the very text they read.
When not to use it
Skip it when the player must understand the speech to play on, such as a clue or an order. Scrambled words there block the game; give a translator, pictures or a helper character instead of a skill.
