Season and day of the festival drift when the length of a season is changed

Saving the date as year, season and day looks natural, until an update makes seasons longer and every stored date lands somewhere else. Here is what single number to keep, how to turn it into a date, and how to move old dates across a change.

Why this works

A plain running count of days never goes wrong, while a date with several parts has to be kept in agreement with itself. Derive the date from the count only when it is shown, and a change in the calendar becomes a single careful conversion.

When not to use it

Do not convert when the festivals should stay at a fixed distance from now, such as a harvest ten days away that must remain ten days away. Then keep the number as it is. Converting suits events tied to a date on the calendar.
