The play time on the save slot is far too long after the laptop slept

A save slot shows how long the hero has played, and players notice when it says forty hours for a weekend. Here is how to count only the time that was really played, ignore menus and sleep, and show it in a form that does not overflow.

Why this works

Elapsed time on the wall clock measures how long the computer was on, not how long someone played. Counting only the small slices between pictures, and capping each slice, means one long gap can never add more than a blink, so sleep, menus and lost focus stay out by themselves.

When not to use it

Do not use it when the game world keeps running while the player is away, such as a garden that grows overnight or a timer players are meant to wait for. There the real elapsed time is the point, and it should be tracked separately from the play time shown on the slot.
