A thrown spear or dropped potion in mid-air is gone when the save is loaded

Saving at the moment something is flying through the air loses it for good, and for a quest item that means the game cannot be finished. Here is how to finish the flight at save time and where an item goes when it would land in a pit.

Why this works

A moment in the air cannot be kept still, so let every flight finish before saving. An object's end is easy to work out from where it was going, and what carries something worth keeping must always arrive somewhere, never vanish between two states.

When not to use it

Do not settle flights when the exact moment matters, like a physics game where the player saves a throw in progress and expects to watch it land. Block saving while things fly, or save the whole motion instead.
