Do potions before a boss really help, or do only the stronger players carry them?
Players who arrive well stocked tend to win more, but they are also the ones who played longer and grew stronger. This entry shows how to compare like with like before you decide that supplies are the cause.
Why this works
Players who carry many potions also tend to be stronger, since they played longer, so a raw comparison mixes the effect of supplies with the effect of strength. Comparing only players of similar strength isolates what the potions add, and a big gap between the two views shows strength was doing the work.
When not to use it
Data alone cannot prove that potions cause wins, because careful players carry more for other reasons too. When there is a cheap way to try it, hand out an extra potion at the door and compare. With too few attempts per strength band, the comparison tells you nothing.
