My AI changed the damage rule and I cannot tell which fights are now different
After a formula change the game still runs and the numbers look plausible, so nothing tells you what you just made easier or harder. Your AI can compare old and new rule across a grid of fights and list only the ones that moved a lot.
Why this works
A change to a formula touches every fight at once, but not equally. Running the old and the new rule over the same grid of attack and defence values shows the shape of the change, where a spot check would show one point only.
When not to use it
If the rule includes chance, such as dodges, compare averages from a simulation instead, since a single grid value is then not a fight result.
