My hero's health bar looks empty with one hit point left, or full when hurt
The bar tells the player how bad things are, and a bar that lies feels like a bug even when the numbers are right. Your AI usually rounds in the wrong direction. This entry shows the small rule that makes both ends of the bar tell the truth.
Why this works
At both ends the bar must say something the numbers say: empty only at zero, full only at full. Rounding in the middle can stay ordinary, but the two ends need their own rule, because the eye reads them as facts.
When not to use it
If the bar is only a rough colour wash without a fixed number of segments, no special rule is needed. For very long bars, over two hundred pixels, the ends rarely collide.
