A hand-edited or damaged save gives a hero more attribute points than the level allows

Players edit save files, and bugs write odd numbers. A hero can load with far too much strength or with points that went missing. Here is a quick check on loading that works out what the level should allow and puts the difference right.

Why this works

A level pays out a fixed amount, so a hero's points spent and unspent must always add up to what that level has paid. Checking this sum on loading catches errors from damage or old bugs without asking how they came about.

When not to use it

Do not enforce a strict budget when the game allows extra points by design, such as rewards from rare items or events. Add those to the budget on purpose. And do not mistake it for protection against cheaters.
