Conjured helpers and thrown decoys come back from a save as ghosts or strangers

A summoned wolf, a decoy, a fire wall: not everything in the world should survive saving. Some should vanish, some should stay with their master, some belong to the world. Here is how to sort them when saving and what to do when the master is gone.

Why this works

Not everything that exists is meant to last. Deciding at creation how long something lives and who it belongs to keeps the save to what matters, and anything tied to a master can only return together with that master.

When not to use it

Do not make helpers vanish on save when the player has invested in them, such as a pet that was raised and named. Treat it as a real companion that belongs to the hero. Keep the quick rule for cheap, short-lived effects only.
