Gold turns into odd decimals after trading, and shared loot loses coins
Sell something at a discount, split a reward among friends, and the purse shows a long string of digits or a coin goes missing. Here is how to keep all money as whole numbers so the saved total is exact, and who gets the odd coin.
Why this works
Money must be countable. Computers cannot hold most decimals exactly, so tiny errors pile up with each trade. Counting in the smallest coin makes every sum exact, and sharing out the leftover coins one by one makes sure none appear or vanish.
When not to use it
Do not insist on whole coins for things that are not really money, such as speed, percentages or a fuel gauge that flows smoothly. Smooth values are fine as decimals. It also adds little to a game with no trading at all.
