Slide a piece around corners at one steady speed

In sliding and ice puzzles a piece may travel through several turns in one move. If each leg gets the same time, the short legs crawl and the long ones race, and the piece looks like it keeps changing gear. Here is how to give the whole route one speed and know exactly when it ends.

Why this works

Our eyes judge motion by speed, not by how long each part takes. Giving short and long stretches the same time makes the piece seem to speed up and slow down for no reason, so spend the time in proportion to the ground covered.

When not to use it

Do not use it when the piece should feel alive, such as a character that speeds up and slows down at corners, or when the path is a single straight line. Use easing with soft starts and stops instead.
