Fly a wrongly dropped piece back to its tray with a time that fits the distance
A piece let go in the wrong place should return on its own. If it always takes the same time, near drops feel sluggish and far drops teleport. Here is a flight whose time grows gently with distance, with a small arc so it reads as flying back rather than sliding through other pieces.
Why this works
A piece sent back should show where it belongs. A flight that is quick for short trips and a little longer for far ones, with a gentle arc, tells the story without being slow, and blocking new drops until it lands avoids a fight between hand and animation.
When not to use it
Do not use it when the player may simply want to try a spot again at once, such as in a fast sorting game, or when the tray is far off screen. Let the piece stay in the hand and drop it again.
