Starting over for a bonus feels bad when the bonus is smaller than the loss
Many long games let players reset everything for a permanent boost. Done badly, the first reset is too early, later ones barely help, and players cannot tell which. Here is how to calculate the gain, show it, and say when a reset is worth it.
Why this works
A restart is worth it only when what you gain beats what you give up. Basing the reward on this run alone, and showing the before and after, lets the player decide with open eyes instead of guessing.
When not to use it
Skip it if players dislike losing progress, or the game has a real ending to reach. A reset feels like a penalty there; offer new goals in the same save, or a separate challenge mode instead.
