Spielerando

Make party members follow the hero's footsteps without cutting corners or piling up

Companions that chase the leader's position cut across walls and pile up the moment the hero stops. Companions that copy old positions by time bunch up differently at every speed. Here is a way to keep a neat line with fixed gaps that follows the exact route walked.

Why this works

A line of friends follows the path, not the person in front. Marking where the leader has really been, and keeping each follower a set walking distance behind, means gaps stay the same at any speed and every bend is walked as the leader walked it.

When not to use it

Skip it when followers should roam, fly, swarm or choose their own route, like animals or a crowd. There, give each one a goal and let it steer around obstacles itself, since a trail only fits things walking in a single file.
