Spielerando

Make a handshake or hug between two players work only when both want it

One player starts a hug, the other walks away, and the first is left embracing the air, or both offer at the same moment and nothing happens. Here is the little exchange that handles asking, answering, crossed offers, waiting too long and moving apart.

Why this works

A gesture between two people means something only if both meant it. A short exchange before the animation, with an expiry and a check that they are still close, means nobody ends up embracing air or being touched without agreeing.

When not to use it

Skip it when the gesture affects only the sender, such as a wave or a bow, or when players are simply friends who can type to each other. Needing consent for a wave only slows the fun.
