Is one teammate doing all the work, or did they just play longer?
Comparing who dealt the most damage in a team punishes players who joined late or left early. This entry shows a fairer way to tell a real carry from a long stay, so your balance changes do not fix a problem that was not there.
Why this works
A contribution only means something next to the time it took to make it. Comparing a player's share of the work with their share of the time on the field cancels out who stayed longest, so what is left is how much more than a fair share they delivered.
When not to use it
It is the wrong tool when roles differ a lot, because a healer and a fighter do not make the same kind of contribution; compare within a role then. It also says nothing about why someone is strong, so do not weaken a skilled player just because the number is high.
