Find the faction or unit that is simply better than the others in every matchup
With three or four factions it is easy to end up with one that nobody has a reason to skip, and another that nobody should ever pick. Players find this out within a week. Here is a check on a table of win rates that names both, before the game is published.
Why this works
Players choose by matchups, not averages, so a faction is broken when nobody has a reason to avoid it or when another is better in every column. Reading the table for those two patterns finds the problem before the game is out, and checking that opposite entries agree catches guessed numbers.
When not to use it
Wrong for games where factions differ in more than fights, such as speed, cost or play style, since a faction can be weaker in fights and still the right choice. Win rates also depend on skill, so real match results should replace guesses once you have them.
