Spielerando

Where do players run out of lives, and are extra lives wasted?

Adding up lives won and lost per level hides when the last life actually goes. This entry shows how to replay real runs in order, so you can see which level ends them and how many bonus lives were thrown away.

Why this works

Lives are a supply that can run out, so the order of gains and losses matters, not their net sum. Replaying events in sequence shows where runs actually end and which rewards were thrown away because the player could not hold them.

When not to use it

Pointless in games with unlimited retries or checkpoints instead of lives. There, measure the time lost per death, which is the real cost the player pays.
