Stop a dialogue box from jumping and words from hopping lines while they type

Text that appears letter by letter often has a word that starts on one line and suddenly leaps to the next, and the box grows in jerks as lines are added. This shows how to lay the whole text out first and reveal it inside that fixed layout.

Why this works

Readers follow words by their place on the page. If the layout is decided for the whole sentence first, a letter appearing never changes where earlier words stand, and the box can take its final size once.

When not to use it

Not when the text can change while it is shown, such as a line the player edits or one that is cut off by a choice. The layout has to be redone then, so lay out again at each change, not once.
