Which scenes are so dark that testers reach for the brightness setting?
Dark is scary until the player cannot see the door. When testers fight the brightness slider, they are telling you a scene went too far. This entry counts the people, not the clicks, and ignores those who turned it up and straight back down.
Why this works
Someone who cannot see acts fast, and the quickest fix they have is the brightness. Many raising it early in one scene means the dark is a problem there, not a mood. Counting people, not slider events, keeps one fiddler from looking like a crowd.
When not to use it
A lot of raising is no flaw if darkness is the whole point, like a horror scene that must be hard to see. Give players a gentler help, such as a lamp in the world, instead of a setting.
