Stop slot reels one after another so each lands on its symbol at the same top speed

A slot machine where the result is rolled first must stop each reel exactly on its symbol. If every reel simply gets a different stopping time, the later ones look as if they were sped up. And choosing the distance carelessly can make a reel roll backwards. Here is a plan that avoids both.

Why this works

A reel is a loop, so any distance that ends on the right symbol modulo the loop is valid. Choosing the smallest forward one above a minimum keeps every reel turning one way, and linking the minimum to the time gives all reels the same pace.

When not to use it

Do not use it when the player stops the reels by hand and the timing is the skill. Then the stopping point comes from the press, so working backwards from a decided symbol would take away the game.
