Make a crowd of identical creatures bob out of step, the same way every time

Twenty identical creatures that all bob at the same moment look like a machine. Random offsets fix it but change on every start and break screenshots and tests, and a speed change halfway makes the whole crowd jump. Here is a stable way to give each one its own beat and keep it smooth.

Why this works

Differences between creatures should come from something that belongs to each one, not from luck at each start. A name-based offset repeats exactly, and keeping the position and changing only the pace avoids any visible jump.

When not to use it

Do not stagger when the crowd should move together on purpose, such as a dance, an army marching or beats of music. Out-of-step motion would read as a mistake there. Share one beat and one start instead.
