Build a control point that is captured slowly and freezes when contested
A flag or tower that changes hands needs care. Two armies standing on it should freeze it, a big crowd should not capture a hundred times faster, and the owner should not change the moment a single soldier steps on. Here is how the progress bar should move, tick by tick.
Why this works
A flag changes hands only if taking it takes effort and effort can be undone. A single progress bar that freezes when both sides stand there, limits the help of extra soldiers, and slides back when abandoned makes the point a real fight instead of a race.
When not to use it
Wrong for games where taking a point should be instant, such as a pick-up or a switch, or where only one player is ever near it. A race game with checkpoints needs no bar at all. For many tiny points, a simple owner flag is enough.
