Spielerando

Give a boss more health for more players, even when someone joins mid-fight

A boss tuned for one player melts under four, and doubling its health for two is too much. This entry gives a curve that grows gently, and shows what to do with the current health when the group changes in the middle of the fight.

Why this works

More players do more together, but not in perfect sum, because they get in each other's way. Growing health by less than a full extra player's worth keeps the fight fair, and keeping the same fraction when the group changes means joining never heals or cripples the boss.

When not to use it

Skip it when the fight is a puzzle for a set team, with fixed roles, where more health changes nothing about the trick, or when most players are alone and scaling only adds waiting. Tune a separate fight for each group size.
